WHAT A SALE COSTS
10-12%
PLUS $5 FLAT, PER SALE1.5%
COLLECTOR TO COLLECTORNo seller level to climb. 5% if you hold any commercial role, plus 2% of shipping when charged.
StockX runs a specific trade. You ship the item to an authentication center, they check it, they ship it on to the buyer, and the buyer pays a premium because that check happened. You never speak to the buyer. You never handle a return. You never argue about condition. For that, you pay a transaction fee between seven and nine percent depending on your seller level, plus three percent payment processing, plus a five dollar US shipping fee on standard sales that went up from four in February 2026.
Call it ten to twelve percent plus the flat five. For a lot of sneaker sellers that is a good deal, because the alternative is handling returns and photographs and messages yourself, and StockX removes all of that.
But the model has a shape, and the shape has consequences. Your item spends time in somebody else’s building. Your money is held until the round trip completes. And when the sale is done, nothing about the item persists: no history, no ownership chain, no record that you ever had it. The Hoard is built at the opposite end of that trade.
The fee here, stated plainly: 1.5% of the item when a collector sells to a collector, 5% if you hold any commercial role, plus 2% of shipping if you charge the buyer for it. One number, published, no seller level to climb.
SIDE BY SIDE
HOW THE TWO ARE STRUCTURED.
Transaction fee
STOCKX
Seller level based, roughly 9% at level one stepping down to about 7% at level five, with a $5 US minimum seller fee.
THE HOARD
1.5% collector to collector, 5% if you hold any commercial role. No levels, no minimum, same rate on your first sale and your thousandth.
Payment processing
STOCKX
3% flat at every seller level.
THE HOARD
Stripe’s rate, paid by you directly to Stripe.
Shipping fee
STOCKX
$5 per standard non Flex US sale, raised from $4 in February 2026.
THE HOARD
None. You ship how you want, or you hand it over in person.
Custody
STOCKX
The item goes to an authentication center before it goes to the buyer.
THE HOARD
The item never leaves your possession until it goes to the buyer.
Who the buyer is
STOCKX
Anonymous. You never learn who bought it.
THE HOARD
Your buyer. Named, contactable, and able to buy from you again.
Buyer side cost
STOCKX
Buyers pay a premium on top of the ask plus processing, so the total buyer cost sits well above the sticker.
THE HOARD
Whatever you and the buyer agree, plus Stripe.
What persists after the sale
STOCKX
A sale price in a chart.
THE HOARD
The full record of the item, transferred to the new owner.
BOTH SIDES, HONESTLY
BOTH PANELS ARE REAL.
WHERE STOCKX WINS
Authentication as a service. Buyers pay more on StockX precisely because the check happened. That premium is real and it partly offsets the fee.
Zero customer service. No photos, no messages, no returns, no haggling. For high volume sellers that is hours a week.
Price discovery. The bid and ask structure gives a live market price on common models, which is useful even if you never sell there.
Liquidity on hyped models. A popular colourway sells in minutes. Nothing on The Hoard matches that.
Predictable process. Same flow every time, no surprises, no negotiation.
WHERE THE HOARD WINS
A lower published rate on a free profile. 1.5% or 5% against ten to twelve percent, with no flat shipping fee, no seller level to grind for it, and no subscription needed to sell.
No round trip. The item goes from you to the buyer once, which is faster and cheaper and one less chance for something to go wrong in transit.
No house. The Hoard does not buy, sell, hold inventory, or take a position in the market it runs.
You keep the buyer. Repeat buyers are the whole business for most sellers, and anonymity kills them.
Any category, and that is the product. Sneakers sit next to cards, sports, fashion, and plants, because it is a fan network rather than a sneaker marketplace.
The pair has a history. Purchase date, retail price, wear notes, storage. It stays with the shoe and goes to the next owner.
WORKED MATH
FOUR SCENARIOS, IN DOLLARS.
ONE, A $200 PAIR AT LEVEL ONE
Standard US sale, buyer pays $15 shipping on the Hoard side.
STOCKX · LEVEL 1
Transaction fee 9%$18.00
Processing 3%$6.00
US shipping fee$5.00
Total fees$29.00
Payout$171.00
THE HOARD · COLLECTOR TO COLLECTOR
Facilitation 1.5% of $200$3.00
2% of $15 shipping charged$0.30
Platform take$3.30
THE HOARD · COMMERCIAL ROLE
Facilitation 5% of $200$10.00
2% of $15 shipping charged$0.30
Platform take$10.30
Between nineteen and twenty six dollars a pair depending on which side of the role line you sit on. On one sale that is a nice dinner. On a hundred pairs it is a mortgage payment.
TWO, THE SAME PAIR AT LEVEL FIVE
What climbing the ladder actually buys you.
STOCKX · LEVEL 5
Transaction fee 7%$14.00
Processing 3%$6.00
US shipping fee$5.00
Total fees$25.00
Payout$175.00
Worth naming plainly: climbing from level one to level five saves four dollars on this sale. The tier system rewards volume but it is not the lever most sellers think it is, and it moves the number by two percentage points. There is no equivalent ladder here, because the rate does not change with volume in either direction.
THREE, A HUNDRED PAIRS A YEAR AT $200
A real operation, so the commercial rate applies.
STOCKX
Level 1$2,900.00 / yr
Level 5$2,500.00 / yr
THE HOARD · COMMERCIAL, FREE PROFILE
Facilitation 5% of $20,000$1,000.00 / yr
2% of $1,500 shipping charged$30.00 / yr
Subscription required to sellnone
Total$1,030.00 / yr
Roughly $1,030 in fees against $2,500 to $2,900, with no subscription on either side. Note the rule that applies here rather than the one people assume: a hundred pairs a year is a commercial operation, so this is the 5% rate, not 1.5%. The role set decides the fee, and holding any commercial role puts you at 5% even when your display role says collector. What StockX gives back for its higher rate is authentication and the buyer premium that comes with it.
FOUR, THE PAIR YOU ARE NOT SELLING
The grails at the back of the closet.
StockX has no product for these, because StockX only exists at the moment of sale.
On The Hoard they are documented: purchase date, retail, size, condition, storage notes, photographed. If you sell in five years, the record goes with them. If you never sell, you still know exactly what you have, which is the entire reason most people start collecting in the first place.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
8 QUESTIONS.
01
What are StockX seller fees in 2026?
A seller level transaction fee running roughly 9% at level one down to about 7% at level five, plus a flat 3% payment processing fee at every level, plus a $5 US shipping fee on standard non Flex sales that was raised from $4 in February 2026. There is also a $5 minimum seller fee for US sellers.
02
Does The Hoard authenticate sneakers?
No. The Hoard does not authenticate anything in any category and never will. It records what is documented about an item rather than making a claim about the item itself.
03
So why would I use it instead of StockX?
You would not, if authentication is the thing you are buying. Use The Hoard when you already have buyers who trust you, when you want the buyer relationship, or when you want the collection recorded rather than just the sales.
04
Do I have to ship my item anywhere first?
No. The Hoard is non custodial. The item goes from you to the buyer once, with no intermediate leg.
05
How does the buyer know the item is what I say it is?
Through the record: photographs, purchase documentation, condition notes, and the ownership history attached to the item. That is evidence a buyer can weigh, not a verdict handed down. Nyami Nyami carries a trust verdict on the identity behind the listing, and Gideon identifies what a piece is from a scan, which is identification and never a certificate of authenticity.
06
Can I sell things other than sneakers?
Yes, and that is closer to the point of the platform than sneakers are. The Hoard is a fan network first: cards, watches, vinyl, comics, designer toys, handbags, jewelry, coins, art, sports, fashion, plants. From plants to playing cards, in one account, with one record system.
07
How do I get paid?
To your own Stripe account, less the facilitation fee taken at the transaction. The Hoard does not hold your balance, so there is no payout hold and no release schedule to wait on.
08
Is there a fee at high sale prices?
The rate does not change with price. A $2,000 sale is $30 collector to collector or $100 commercial, against roughly $205 to $245 on a ten to twelve percent take rate plus the flat shipping fee.
THE SHORT VERSION
StockX sells you anonymity and a check, and charges ten to twelve percent plus five dollars for it. The Hoard sells you the opposite: your buyer, your item in your hands, your record, at 1.5% or 5% depending on how you sell. Pick based on which of those you actually need, not only on which is cheaper, because they are not selling the same thing.
